Hobbies
I have six years of experience as a classroom teacher. During this time, I have been able to build strong relationships with students, teachers, and parents by setting ambitious goals and effectively communicating the standards and expectations of the school. My relationship with students is built on mutual trust and respect, and is a direct result of effective classroom management techniques and differentiated methods of instruction. This relationship is critical in a classroom because it sets the tone for a disciplined and focused classroom environment that is conducive to learning. I have witnessed the effect of differentiated instruction firsthand in my experience as a fourth grade English Language Arts teacher in 2010-2011, when my students were able to improve their scores by 100% year over year. I was able to accomplish this by incorporating technology in the classroom via SMART boards and Google Chrome Books as well as providing students with adequate writing and research tools available at the school library. As a Social Studies teacher, I have been able to establish cross-curricular integration between Language Arts and Social Studies by implementing similar techniques in the classroom. My students have greatly benefited from incorporating technology into my lessons, which is evidence through their increased standardized test scores, increase in reading levels, and their greater interest in writing.
